ASICS

What does it stand for?

It is an acronym of a famous Latin phrase, "Anima Sana In Corpore Sano" (the original citation should be "mens sana in corpore sano"). It means "A Healthy Soul in a Healthy Body".

By taking the acronym of the phrase, ASICS was founded on the belief the best way to create a healthy and happy lifestyle is to promote total health and fitness.

Started as Onitsuka Co. Ltd in 1949, Mr. Kihachiro Onitsuka began his athletic footwear company by manufacturing basketball shoes out of his living room in Kobe, Japan.

By 1966, the distinctive crossed stripes (now the trademark of the brand) come to life in the "Mexico 66" series. These shoes were worn by the althelets (not only by the Japanese, but also by the top foreign althelets of the time) at the Mexico Olympic Games in 1968.

In 1977, Mr. Onitsuka join-forced with two other contemporaries (GTO, and JELENK), and created ASICS.

In celebrating the 60 years of existence, Onitsuka Tiger by ASICS has produced a three minute animated video, the Legend of the Zodiac Race to tell the story of the Chinese Zodiac.
