The little village of Milon is situated near Chateau Lafite, but vineyards of Clerc-Milon themselves are situated in the northernmost of the Pauillac appellation, closer to Mousset.

With a mixture of sand, gravel and more clay nearer the river, vineyards of Clerc Milon are planting varietals of Cabernet Sauvignon (46%), Merlot (39%), Cabernet Franc (12%), Petit Verdot (2%) and the impressive Carmenere (1%). Nowadays, Carmenere is a rare sight in the vineyards of Bordeaux.

Originated from Jean-Baptiste Clerc who owned land close to the river (whilst Milon refers to the lieu-dit and nearby village), the wine produced here was classified as one of the eighteen Cinquièmes Crus (Fifth Growths) in the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855.

Clerc Milon was acquired by Baron Philippe de Rothschild in 1970.
