Situated only 2 kilometers away from the town centre of Tai Po, Fung Yuen Butterfly Reserve (鳳園蝴蝶保育區) is a famous location for butterflies-watching in Hong Kong.

Since 1980, it has been listed as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) to reflect its importance as a major breeding site for butterflies.
The Fung Yuen Valley SSSI covers an area of about 43 hectares.
Banded Tree Brown (白帶黛眼蝶)
There are nearly 180 butterfly species in Fung Yuen, and about 50 of these are not commonly seen in Hong Kong.
Such as, rare butterflies like the Common Birdwing (the only protected butterfly species in Hong Kong that is listed in the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance), and the White Dragontail (the smallest-size Papilionidae species which is protected by China).
