Is iPhone Dying?

Initially, Android phones sucked compared to iPhone. Then, Android phones improved, while iOS was was still much bigger than Android.

Then, Android became the smartphone market-share leader, and Android Market keeps growing.

Now, Android isn't just the operating system market share leader. Samsung, a single Android manufacturer, has also blown past Apple in global handset sales and ships 28 million smartphones in Q3 2011 while Apple only sold 17 million iPhones.

iPhone is dying!

Heart Sutra (般若波羅蜜多心經)

The Heart Sūtra is the most popular of all Buddhist scriptures.

The Heart Sūtra is made up of 14 shlokas in Sanskrit. In Chinese, it is composed of 260 Chinese characters. In English, it is composed of sixteen sentences.

The Heart Sūtra, it is generally thought, is likely to have been composed in the 1st century CE in Kushan Empire territory, by a Sarvastivadin or ex-Sarvastivadin monk.

The earliest record of a copy of the sūtra is a 200-250CE Chinese version attributed to the Yuezhi monk Zhi Qian. It was supposedly translated again by Kumarajiva around 400CE, although John McRae and Jan Nattier have argued that this translation was created by someone else, much later, based on Kumarajiva's Large Sūtra.

Zhi Qian's version, if it ever existed, was lost before the time of Xuanzang, who produced his own version in 649CE, which closely matches the one attributed to Kumarajiva. Xuanzang's version is the first record of the title "Heart Sūtra" (心經 xīnjīng) being used for the text, and Fukui Fumimasa has argued that xinjing actually means dharani scripture. According to Huili's biography, Xuanzang learned the sutra from an inhabitant of Sichuan, and subsequently chanted it during times of danger in his journey to the West.

Grüner Silvaner

Sylvaner or Silvaner is a variety of white wine grape grown primarily in Alsace and Germany, where its official name is Grüner Silvaner.

In Germany it is best known as a component of Liebfraumilch and production boomed in the 1970s to the detriment of quality, but it has long enjoyed a better reputation in Franconia than in other German wine regions.

While the Alsatian versions have primarily been considered simpler wines, it was recently (2006) included among the varieties that can be used to produce Alsace Grand Cru wine together with the four 'noble grapes' of Alsace, although only in one vineyard, Zotzenberg.

Dragon Illusion

Incredible Shade Illusion!

Why does the illusion work?
The visual system needs to determine the color of objects in the world. In this case the problem is to determine the gray shade of the checks on the floor. Just the light coming from a surface (the luminance) is not enough: a cast shadow will dim a surface, so that a white surface in shadow may be reflecting less light than a black surface in full light. The visual system uses several tricks to determine where the shadows are and how to compensate for them, in order to determine the shade of gray "paint" that belongs to the surface.

Johnnie Walker

Originally known as Walker's Kilmarnock Whisky, the Johnnie Walker brand is a legacy left by John "Johnnie" Walker after he started to sell whisky in his grocer's shop in Ayrshire, Scotland at the age of fourteen in 1819.

Prior to 1860, it was illegal to sell blended whisky. During that time John Walker sold a number of whiskies - notably his own Walker's Kilmarnock, which was surely a single or blended malt.

The brand became popular, but after Walker's death in 1857 it was his son Alexander Walker and grandson Alexander Walker II who were largely responsible for establishing the Scotch as a popular brand.

In 1865, Alexander produced their first blend, Walker's Old Highland.

Having less stocking space and less broken bottles, the squared bottles, together with the slanted Johnnie Walker label that is inclined 24 degrees, was introduced in 1860, and remains an icon of the mark.

Nowadays, Johnnie Walker is the most widely distributed brand of blended Scotch whisky and is sold in almost every country with yearly sales of over 130 million bottles worldwide.

Flowerbomb de Paris

L’Oréal has unveiled a limited-edition version of its Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb fragrance, which will be available only in selected travel retail doors. The fragrance, called Flowerbomb de Paris, will be available from July exclusively in Parisian airport shops.

Only 1,600 numbered bottles will be available. The limited-edition fragrance was created by the Dutch design duo Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren as a tribute to Paris. It is described as a “celebration of the City of Lights."

The original Flowerbomb was itself unveiled in Paris in late 2004, prior to its launch in Europe and the US in 2005. “Flowerbomb de Paris is an ode to the French capital in a 50ml bottle,” says L’Oréal.

Inspired by “L’air de Paris”, Viktor & Rolf aim to make consumers rediscover the City of Lights through sketches of their favorite places: the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and the Sacré Coeur, among others. These symbols decorate the faceted diamond-like flacon, which was created to the iconic city.

the full report:

Macon-Villages is an appellation uniquely for white wines produced in certain selected communes of the Maconnais wine-producing area in southern Burgundy. The appellation represents a step up in quality from the standard Macon appellation, and specializes in dry white wines made from the Chardonnay grape variety.

The named Macon-Villages communes are permitted to add their name to the Macon appellation on labels, giving forms like "Macon Lugny" or "Macon Fuisse" or to call their wine simply Macon-Villages. If a wine is produced from grapes grown in more than one of the named communes, then the wine loses the right to claim a particular village name, and must be labeled Macon-Villages.

The typical Macon-Villages wine is lightly floral and fruity, with a warm hint of citrus fruits. The best examples have a gently nutty character, like almonds or hazelnuts.

Joshua Bell - Una furtiva lagrima

Like its namesake helicopter, hoverflies often hover over flowers.

Hoverflies are bee mimics. They are also known as flower flies or syrphid flies. They belong to the family Syrphidae.

The adults of hoverflies feed mainly on nectar and pollen, while the larvae (maggots) eat a wide range of foods. In some species, the larvae are saprotrophs, eating decaying plant and animal matter in the soil or in ponds and streams. In other species, the larvae are insectivores and prey on aphids, thrips, and other plant-sucking insects.
